How can UAVs perceive surrounding aircraft to achieve autonomous obstacle avoidance?

   In the process of aerial survey operations, the biggest concern should be other manned aircraft in the airspace, such as civil aviation, private aircraft, etc. To ensure flight safety, the ADS-B technology of other aircraft in the airspace has been directly integrated into flight control by many flight control manufacturers.


   In fact, DJI Company has announced that starting from January 1, 2020, all drones weighing over 250g will support ADS-B IN function, and some professional models will be equipped with ADS-B OUT function as an option. As a leader in the consumer grade drone market, DJI drones have set an industry benchmark for ADS-B drone applications. More and more drone manufacturers and flight control manufacturers are integrating ADS-B technology into their products, some even at the chip level.


   However, there is still a large portion of flight control in the market that does not have the ADS-B function. In order to enable drones using these flight controls to also have ADS-B functions, the simplest way is to connect an ADS-B module externally and use a serial port to connect with the flight control. This allows for real-time perception of other drones within a 200 kilometer range, achieving threat warning and automatic avoidance, and calmly responding to air traffic control.



   At present, many commercial drones adopt this solution, such as the new generation CW-15 Dapeng drone released by JOUAV Corporation in 2022, which achieves real-time perception of aircraft within a 160 kilometer range through external ADS-B modules in flight control, and independently judges collision risks and adopts avoidance strategies.
